Awarded to Senior Sergeant Popov Nikolay Nikolaevich, Medal for Courage, On June 18, 1943.

 

Born in 1905, Nationality russian and served in the Red Army from 1941 at the military rank Senior Sergeant in the 27th Artillery Regiment of 5th Rifle Division.


 

The Medal for Courage was awarded for personal courage and valour displayed in defending the socialist motherland during the performance of military duties, for "acts of bravery during a battle, during the defence of the state borders or during military duties associated with risk to life"


 

The medal is in good used condition and have a very low serial number 356428. Most details are well visible. Made of solid silver and weighs total 29 gram. The silver suspension is original as is the brass screw, the nut, the plate holding the ribbon and the screw plate tightening it all up. Type 1. Rectangular block. Variant 4: The serial number is stamped. There is no “No.” in front of the numbers. The thickness of the medal is approximately 3.0 mm. The height of the numbers is 2.5 mm. The minimum known medal number is 155066, the maximum is 490828.


 

This is what we find in the Russian military archives about this medal:

 

Topographer of the first division Sergeant Popov Nikolay Nikolayevich awarded a Medal of Courage for showing brave and courage in the battles against the German invaders. When executing a battle-order in battles near the village of Gorodishche, he quickly and accurately made a topography of the battle formation, under the strong artillery and mortar fire of the enemy.

 

Senior Sergeant Nikolay Popov was also awarded with several others rewards and medals.
