Luftwaffe General der Luftwaffe Four Pocket Tunic

Luftwaffe General der Luftwaffe Four Pocket Tunic

Luftwaffe General der Luftwaffe Four Pocket Tunic

Luftwaffe blue/grey wool/tricot construction tunic with a subtly ribbed weave. The tunic features a four golden button front closure with small fold back lapels and a lay down collar. The tunic has four pleated pockets with straight pocket flaps. The right breast has a very high quality, hand embroidered second pattern gold bullion eagle with bright gilt bullion with copper thread embroidered highlight and golden yellow cotton accent threads. The eagle is neatly hand stitched to the tunic.

The tunic has sewn-in shoulder boards with gold and silver twisted bullion cord top on a White wool underlay. Two silver washed rank pips is pinned in Place to each board. Which denotes the rank to "General der Luftwaffe". The small lay down collar features matching white wool collar tabs with hand embroidered almost closed top oak-leaf wreath with three rank "gulls" all in golden bullion wire threads. The outer edges of the collar tabs are piped in twisted, gilt wire. Also the collar itself have a golden bullion wire all around.

At the left breast pocket we find loops for three awards, presumably a Iron Cross 1'st class with clasp, a flight badge and a wound or sports badge, above the pocket there are loops for a long ribbon bar. To the left breast pocket is loops for either a Spanish Cross or German Cross in Gold or Silver.

The interior of the tunic is fully lined in grey rayon and pyjama striped cloth in the sleeves. The lining has two slash inner pockets. Inside one of the inner pockets is a clear shadow from a removed name label. The other inside pocket has some stains from a red lead marker pen. At the neck is a tailors label from the well known highest quality tailor "Mannheim" neatly hand stitched in place. To the left side is a slit opening for a dagger hanger to pass through. Close to the left inside lapel is a small "anti-slide" metal hook sewn to a piece of grey cloth.

The tunic is in very good still used condition. The cloth shows minor color fading with one small wear spot to the lower left lapel (see Pictures!). All insignias match perfectly in age and wear with a nice, light age patina. And there is no signs of any previous insignias. All the buttons are the gilt washed, pebbled, metal type and maker marked the same way. The buttons all appear to have original stitching. Inside shows light stains from use. No rips holes or mendings.

This tunic shows the highest quality throughout, insignias, cloth and the tailor work to match it up. This tunic was not manufactured in a heartbeat and must have cost a great deal for the General even back then.

Absolutely stunning tunic for a highly decorated General der Luftwaffe!!
