Luftwaffe General's M43 Field Cap
Tailor made Luftwaffe M43 cap constructed of ribbed blue/grey colored wool/rayon blend. Fold down side and back panels with a two gold painted pebbled button closure at the front center. The front center of the cap has a national eagle made of gold colored bullion. The eagle is removable with two attachment pins located to the metal backing (the third is broken). The cap has loops sewn for the attachment pins to pass-through and firmly attach the national eagle to the cap. Below the national eagle is a bullion cockarde with golden border’s and inner circle which is the correct type for a general. The top crown of the cap has heavy gold colored rank cord sewn in place.
The interior of the cap is fully lined in grey satin/rayon. At the front of the cap is a partial leather sweatband machine sewn in place. The sweatband is marked "Qualitäts Marke" which is probably the most commonly encountered marking we find on partial sweatbands from the period. The cap shows even wear all over with a couple of minor wear holes located to the left side panel. Insignias match perfectly in age, wear and tear and is originally sewn/attached to the cap. Inside shows same amount of age and wear as the outside with minor discoloration from sweat, dirt and most likely hair products. The cap is in a beautiful well preserved still service used condition.
