Waffen-SS Dress Uniform Fez

As the tides of war changed for Germany it was decided to recruit a division of Bosnian Muslims in February 1943, which eventually evolved into the 13.Waffen-Gebirgs-Division der SS "Handschar" and was primarily manned from Muslims from the Bosnia-Herzegovina region of Croatia, with a cadre of German personnel from the 7. SS-Freiwillingen-Gebirgs-Division "Prinz Eugen".

The cap is made of high quality maroon colored felt cloth. The fez features a two piece tassel to the top center of the crown. The tassel has a short piece of maroon felt inserted and stitched into the center of the crown with the correct black rayon tassel sewn to the top. The front center of the fez features a machine woven SS eagle in silver/grey threads on a cut-out woven black rayon base and a separate machine woven Totenkopf in silver/grey threads, also on a cut-out black rayon base. Both pieces of insignia are machine stitched to the cap. Unlined interior with missing sweat-band.

The fez is in good used condition, the fez is supposed to be sewn fixed with a single, tight stitch to the reverse. This stitch is broken and tassel now hangs free. Sweat-band, missing and both insignias shows clear signs of age and use.

This types of caps was found in Dachau concentration camp, all mint un-issued. Thats the one we encounter on the market from time to time. This cap has been used, most likely from a member of the SS-Handschar division
or possibly but not likely from SS-Kama division.

Very rare to find a used example!!
