Early U-Boat War Badge Made of Tombak Unmarked Otto Schickle

The U-Boat War Badge was instituted by Großadmiral Erich Raeder on October 13th 1939 for award to all ranks of U-Boat personnel who had served on at least two sorties against the enemy or were wounded in action. The badge was to be worn on the lower left breast of most uniforms.

The badge is made of die struck tombak with a fire gilted finish. The plain solid reverse has a solid hinge, a broad pin and catch all intact. The pin has been profesionally repaired. The repair is located Close to the hinge. The pin is fully functional and is completely solid to the touch. The repair is as said profesionally done, we are almost certain the repair is war-time made. Besides the hardly noticable repair, the badge shows signs of both age and use. Still, the fire gilded finish and crisp details is intact and makes the badge highly collectible and it will look great on display!
