Iron Cross 1'st Class 1939

On September 1st 1939 Hitler reinstituted the Iron Cross series of awards in the First and Second Classes and established the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The first class medal was for award to personnel who performed three to five acts of bravery in combat, and had already been awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.

This cross is a die struck three piece alloy construction. Iron Core and two alloy frames. Both swastika and date are in nice high relief. Reverse is plain with solid soldered hinge, bottle shaped attachment pin and soldered catch all intact. The cross is good condition with about 99% of the original black paint still intact to the Iron Core. Silvered frames shows the original bright silver finish with minor age tarnish.

Very nice cross with a lovely age patina!!
