Hitler re-instituted the Iron Cross series on the 1st September 1939. The first class was awarded for Three to five acts of bravery in combat and already been awarded the Iron Class Second class.

 

Iron Cross First class 1939 pattern. Three piece Construction with black Iron Core and silver washed frames. To the reverse is hing, bottle shaped pin and Catch all intact. The pin is maker marked "L/13" for Paul Meybauer, Berlin. The cross is in good used condition with virtually all black paint intact to the core. The paint shows a couple of "spiderings" under the paint, normally seen on examples from this maker in particular. The silver frames shows a nice age patina.
