Iron Cross 1\'st Class 1939

Iron Cross 1'st Class 1939

On September 1st 1939 Hitler reinstituted the Iron Cross series of awards in the First and Second Classes and established the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The first class medal was for award to personnel who performed three to five acts of bravery in combat, and had already been awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.

This cross is a die struck three piece alloy construction. Iron Core and two alloy frames. Both swastika and date are in nice high relief. Reverse is plain with solid soldered hinge, narrow attachment pin and soldered catch all intact. The cross is in very good condition with 99% of the original black paint still intact to the Iron Core. The frames shows the original bright silver finish with minor age tarnish.

Hard to find in better condition this one also is extra desirable for uniform collectors with the narrow type of attachment pin!!
