Zugwachabteilung Gorget Scroll
Zugwache were soldiers attached to security units, not in the railway stations however, but on the actual trains themselves. Their duties involved maintaining order and discipline on trains as well as checking travel papers for deserters etc. On trains operating through the occupied territories they also provided additional protection against attack by partisans etc.
This gorget center scroll is made of Aluminum with a silver wash. "Zugwachabteilung" In raised relief to the center painted with luminous gold/yellow paint. We used an UV light and the paint still glows! To the reverse we find one intact attachment prong and two broken. Should not be hard to restore if need be. Besides the missing prongs, the scroll is in good still used condition with signs of age and use.
Very scarce and essential for the collector who owns a gorget missing its center scroll!!
