Freikorps Bahrenfeld 1919 Armband

The meaning of the word Freikorps changed over time. After 1918, the term was used for the paramilitary organizations that sprang up around Germany as soldiers returned in defeat from World War I. They were the key Weimar paramilitary groups active during that time.

Freikorps also fought against the communists in the Baltics, Silesia, Poland and East Prussia after the end of World War I, including aviation combat, often with significant success. In the Baltics they fought against communists as well as against the newborn independent democratic countries Estonia and Latvia. The Freikorps was officially disbanded in 1920.

Freikorps bahrenfeld insignia made of Tombak with a gilt burnished finish in the form of a red deer skull with the Prussian Crown between and over the antler's. A christian cross is standing on the skull itself. The details is surprisingly clear and crisp. The insignia is pinned in Place to green smooth silk like cloth armband and the reinforced backing made of cardboard is still intact. The backing is covered with green felt.

The armband shows light signs of use and age. There is a couple of minor stitch holes which shows the armband was removed from a uniform.

Very scarce insignia even harder to find still attached to its original armband!!
