German WWI Close Combat / Trench Knife

German WWI Close Combat / Trench Knife

Introduced in 1915 in the development of smaller lighter edged weapons for use in hand-to-hand fighting. The close combat or trench knife saw widespread use during WWI and came in both ordnance issue and private purchase, with numerous variations.

This example comes with its original metal scabbard and integral leather belt loop with intact push button. The steel blade is 14.5cm long with original leather stopper still intact. The natural wooden grips are secured to the blade tang by three small rivets. Nine diagonally-angled grooves are incised to either side. The knife and scabbard shows signs of both age and use. Still complete with no damage.

Used example with a very nice age patina. Will be hard to find a better still used example!!
