Frederick August Cross, 1'st Class

The Friedrich-August Cross was a German decoration of the First World War. It was set up on 24 September 1914 by Frederick Augustus II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg with two classes, for (to quote its citation) "all persons of military or civilian status, who have shown outstanding service during the war itself".

Here we have a die stamped cross made of non ferrous metal probably Tombak. The letters F.A to the center for Frederick August and below 1914, the institution date of the Award. To the reverse is a hinge, pin and Catch set up, still in perfect working order. Most of the black paint is intact to both the obverser as well as the reverse of the medal.

Much harder to find compared to the Iron Cross!!
