German WWI Lübeck Hanseatic Cross

German WWI Lübeck Hanseatic Cross

There were approximately 8000-10.000 Awards of the Hanseatic Cross of Lübeck, the smallest Hanseatic city. The Hanseatic Cross was a decoration of the three Hanseatic city-states of Bremen, Hamburg and Lübeck, who were members of the German Empire during World War 1. Each republic established its own version of the cross, but the design and Award criteria were similar for each. The Hanseatic Cross came in only one class, a cross worn from a ribbon on the left chest. The cross was a red-enameled silver cross pattee which bore the arms of the relevant city-state on the cetner medallion. The reverse was identical for all three versions and the center medallion bore the phrase "Für Verdienst im Kriege", ("for merit in war") and the date 1914.

1914-1918 issued cross with Hanseatic city of Lübeck's city Crest to the gold washed center. Deep red enamel to each arm of the cross. The reverse has a Bright silver finish. Fastened to the suspension ring is the correct red and White colored satin ribbon. The cross is in good condition with intact enamel works. The cross has a very nice light age patina all over.
