Instituted in July of 1934 by von Hindenburg to recognize service in WWI. It ranked beneath bravery awards but above other service and campaign awards.

 

The medal is made of die struck, magnetic sheet metal with a bronze wash. Maker marked to the reverse "G17" and comes complete with original rayon ribbon.

 

Also included is a buttonette, with ribbons for the Iron Cross Second class 1914 and combatants cross of honor with swords. All mounted to a button.
