WW1 Prussian Universal Infantry EM/NCO's M1917 Field Cap

WW1 Prussian Universal Infantry EM/NCO\'s M1917 Field Cap

WW1 Prussian Universal Infantry EM/NCO's M1917 Field Cap

On its introduction the M1907 "Kratzchen" field cap for enlisted personnel was issued with a branch of service colored centerband and piping. In 1917 the "Kratzchen" field cap was modified by discontinuing the branch of service color centerbands and replacing them with a less visible green centerband for all branches of service but both versions of the caps were worn concurrently.

Field grey wool construction cap with green/grey wool piping to the top crown edge and a green/grey wool centerband. The front center of the cap has a stamped magnetic metal national tri-color cockade and White and black colored Prussian cockade. The interior of the cap is fully lined in white cotton. The lining is stamped with depot markings and has one period made mending. The mending is about 4+4cm, rather sloppy made with Heavy White cotton threads. Size is about 55-56.

The cap shows clear signs of age and use. There is a couple of wear/moth holes located to the cap band. Inside, lining shows age/use yellow toning. The lower parts of the lining which was in Close Contact to the soldier's head shows darker stains from sweat and dirt.

Well used cap which for sure has seen some Heavy action, still in highly collectible condition!!
